A portrait of the late Congresswoman from Hawaiʻi, Patsy Mink, was unveiled on June 23, 2022, in the U.S. Capitol during a ceremony to celebrate her life and the 50th anniversary of her important legislation, Title IX, “the Patsy Takemoto Mink Equal Opportunity in Education Act.”

Once again, the HSS was unable to host the Kamehameha Lei-Draping Event in Emancipation Hall in the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center due to COVID and security concerns. Our Hawai`i Congressional members desired the people of Hawai`i to be aware that such an event was not possible again and prepared pre-recorded messages from Washington, DC. Darlene Kehaulani Butts and several HSS members assisted the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and the Congressional offices with this message.
